City have confirmed that Guardiola will leave at the end of the season after 10 years at the helm as he established himself as a club legend after collecting 20 trophies during his time in charge.
Now, whilst Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne have all been given statues, City have announced that they will go a step further with Guardiola.
“Manchester City are delighted to announce that the newly-developed and expanded North Stand at the Etihad Stadium will be named ‘The Pep Guardiola Stand’.
“Appropriately, the stand will be fully open for the first time for the Manager’s final game in charge at the Club, the concluding game of the season against Aston Villa on Sunday.”
Guardiola will be remembered forever
Club owner Sheikh Mansour also spoke on the news, revealing that Guardiola’s legacy should never be forgotten.
“The Pep Guardiola Stand, and the statue that will sit outside it, rightly ensure that Pep’s legacy will remain forever woven into the fabric of this football club, the city of Manchester and English football.
“The unique relationship that he has with our fans has been earned through the honesty and passion of his ten seasons fighting to bring them success. The Pep Guardiola Stand is a fitting and permanent reminder of that relationship, the most successful period in our Club’s history, and the unique football genius at its heart.”
Guardiola will depart after City's final-day game against Aston Villa on Sunday, despite having one year remaining on his contract. He leaves as a legendary figure that the club clearly never want to forget.
