The midfielder is currently a free agent after leaving FC Seoul at the end of the last K-League season.
In 2021, he was loaned to West Ham, a period that was perhaps the best of his career. In 16 games, he accounted for nine goals and five assists and was one of the Premier League's most in-form players.
After the loan, Lingard returned to United in the hope of a fresh start. It didn't happen and instead he was limited to sporadic appearances before his contract expired.
In an interview with Sky Sports, he now says that he believes he has earned a new chance: "After the West Ham loan I felt I deserved to play. I was probably one of the best players in the league at the time.
"As a player you want to play every game. Getting to play a little here and a little there is difficult."
During his time at United, he also received criticism for his behavior off the field, something he himself believes has been misunderstood.
He added, "I like to be a happy person and put smiles on people's faces. But when it's time to work, I work."
