Former Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard has revealed why he made his move to South Korea.

Lingard saw his deal with FC Seoul mutually terminated earlier this month, as the club claim he "conveyed his desire to move on to the next stage of his football career".

The 32-year-old joined the K League club on a free transfer in February 2024 and has made 66 appearances, scoring 18 goals.

A move to South Korea was needed

Lingard, who made 232 appearances for Manchester United, admitted to The Guardian this week that he made the move to the other side of the world to escape the constant noise from the media.

“The food is different, obviously, and I tried live octopus. It was moving. I was scared at first but it was all right.

“Seoul is the biggest club in the country. I always compare it to United. The expectation to win is always there.

“I was shocked at first because I didn’t know anything about Seoul. But when I started to think about it, I thought it could be a chance to reset, to get away from the noise in Manchester.

“There’s a lot of distractions (in Manchester). You can get roped into going out and stuff like that.

“I just wanted to get away and really knuckle down on the football part.”

He is yet to confirm where he will play next but when asked he gave a clue as to what he is thinking ahead of the January transfer window.

“Europe, Saudi, UAE...”

Lingard has not played for England since 2021, but reports are already linking him with a move back to his home country as his career comes to a close.
