Newcastle defender Lewis Hall has been called up to the national team for the first time under manager Thomas Tuchel for this month’s friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.
Hall could start on the opposite side to Reece James, a defender who he knows from his days at Chelsea when the club was managed by Graham Potter.
Tuchel, who clearly sees potential in the young defender, has named a big 35-member squad for the upcoming matches. Hall will be hoping to make the final cut for the World Cup this summer.
Speaking ahead of the game against Uruguay, Hall spoke on Silva who he says helped him push to be his very best.
“So much. It goes without saying really the experience he has in the game. He’s played a number of games at the highest level, and although he didn’t really speak much English, he was so good with me and always wanted to help me improve.
“He was obviously playing a lot of games for Chelsea, and quite regularly for someone of his age, he was taking time on the training pitch to try and help me out.
“At the time, him and a lot of other players were trying to help me improve. Whenever you get to play and train with older players, you learn a lot from them. I’m really grateful.”
The squad has been divided into two groups with some of the players arriving joining the camp after the Uruguay clash. Hall has been called up ahead of the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and will aim to be in the final list of player heading to the US, Mexico and Canada.
