Gyokeres has completed ten games and scored three goals for Arsenal after his £64M move from Sporting Lisbon this summer. The Gunners beat United to his signature in what was an intense battle that lasted for a number of months.
The 27-year-old bagged an impressive 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting and was understandably a wanted man for both sides. However, Arsenal snagged him in the end as manager Mikel Arteta finally got his man.
However, Chalkias, an assistant to Gyokeres's agent Hasan Cetinkaya has revealed that The Red Devils did in fact offer more money in what is a shocking turn of events.
“There were crazy amounts offered from Saudi Arabia,' he said, 'we're supposed to act in our best interest.
“Do we have also have a percentage (of any fee)? Of course. It's a lot of money. Maybe Viktor should respond to that some day.
“I don't think we pressured him once to accept the offer. At the end of the day, money comes and goes and this move to Arsenal brings us a lot of marketing.
“They (Sporting) had concluded a deal with Manchester United behind our backs, that was a problem. United offered a higher transfer fee.”
After missing out on Gyokeres, United ended up splashing out £74m to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig instead whilst also adding Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. Their attack however, isn’t quite clicking so far under manager Ruben Amorim.
