Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes insists the squad will stick together after a poor home defeat to Brentford on Saturday.

Guimaraes made his return from injury in the 3-2 loss, which left Newcastle 12th on the Premier League table.

“Delighted to be back almost three weeks after my last injury,” Guimaraes posted to social media. “I know, and we all know, our responsibility as players, and that things are not happening the way we would like.

“I believe that in these four years together, this is the first time we are going through a real dip in form. We have to work harder, because difficult moments are always opportunities for us to become better than we have ever been.

“There is still a lot ahead of us, but we are certain that inside our club, no one will let go of anyone, and we will give everything to enjoy better days.

“Special thanks to the club’s physios for getting me back fit in record time, as well as my staff for helping me return to the pitch as quickly as possible. Howay NUFC.”
