Gerrard has been out of work since leaving Al-Ettifaq in January 2025 returned to Liverpool this weekend, featuring in a Liverpool Legends charity match against Borussia Dortmund at Anfield in what was an entertaining 2-2 draw.
The former Aston Villa and Rangers boss will be seeking a new role ahead of the new season as he seeks to escape punditry, something he has been trapped in since the start of the year.
Speaking on the Overlap this week, Gerrard opened up on his future and if he would consider returning to The Reds as a coach if the opportunity cropped up.
“I’ve got a brilliant connection with the club, I always have. Probably a stronger connection since I left, they’ve always been unbelievable.
“Any help or area I could help the club in, obviously, I’d try and do it if I could. But I suppose what you want to know is, do I want to manage Liverpool at some point in my life?
“Of course, that would be a dream, but I think, would I be ready for it right now, to take it over a long period of time, probably not. But is there a possibility in the future to be alongside someone, them elite managers that you talk about.”
“You’d have to understand it before you sign up to it, what the role is, and it’s to support the manager, it’s to be that assistant.
“I would do it for Liverpool Football Club if I was asked, and they felt that I was the right man to do it, I’d be up for it, of course.”
Gerrard is a club legend and would be welcomed back in any capacity by supporters, but it is unlikely he would become head coach unless as an interim if Arne Slot is sacked.
