The Blues recorded a 2-0 victory against Fulham at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon in which George featured in the frontline, despite him being a natural winger. George came on for the injured Liam Delap, but manager Enzo Maresca called him off in the 81st minute after a subpar performance.
He signed a new contract in June 2024 which runs until the summer of 2027 and featured 26 times in all competitions and scoring three goals last season in what was an impressive campaign.
Now, it looks like the 19-year-old will be joining The Cottagers in a permanent move which will see him gain more minutes on the pitch as reported by The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
“EXCL: Fulham strike agreement with Chelsea to sign Tyrique George. Deal for 19yo winger worth £22m package + sell-on clause. Personal terms in place on 5yr contract for England youth international. Permission given #CFC to do #FFC medical @TheAthleticFC.”
The England youth international would have been up against big-name attacking players such as Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto, Jamie Gittens and Estevao Willian in Maresca’s side, meaning his game time would have been serverly limited.
George joined Chelsea at under-8 level and has progressed through the ranks and now joins Fulham manager Marco Silva in his campaign in chasing down European football despite their winless start to the season.
