The 22-year-old is one of the best in the Premier League when it comes to creating chances, but was yet to score for the side until he slotted the ball past Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa over the weekend.
Costing £125M, Wirtz has been widely criticized, but his recent performances have justified his price tag as Liverpool get back on track and climb up to 4th in the table.
In his column for the Liverpool Echo, Aldridge has backed Wirtz who will be aiming to continue his fine form against Leeds United on Thursday night.
“That first goal for Florian Wirtz was going to come, wasn’t it? I’ve watched him for some time. He’s a player. He reminds me of Peter Beardsley. He’s bright, he’s smart, but he needed that goal. It was playing on his mind. It’ll be a relief to him, and he can build on it now for sure.
“He’s linking up in the right areas with Hugo Ekitike. It’s good to see. There will definitely be more to come from him, from both of them. Alexander Isak will come back too. When you’re a striker, you need service, and Wirtz certainly provides that.”
Wirtz was delighted to open his Premier League account for Liverpool, as he spoke last week.
"It was very nice. I was very happy and I liked it! I was confident that I would score one day. Of course, I wanted to start scoring and assisting earlier, but it was like this. I had to accept it, but I just knew that it would come, and I just tried to keep going like that."
A win for Liverpool against Leeds could fire the side to four points away from Aston Villa, who sit in 3rd place behind Manchester City and Arsenal.
