Fernandes has played over 300 games for United since his £47 million move from Sporting CP in January 2020, amassing 102 goals and 92 assists over that time as he establishes himself as a club legend.
The Portuguese international has contributed to 10 of the team's 26 goals in the Premier League but is often used as a scapegoat when the team is underperforming. Speaking to GOAL via Stake, Evra has suggested that Fernades is often too controlling.
"It’s always sensitive to talk about Bruno. It depends what people call a real captain. With a captain, sometimes you can have someone like Roy Keane or a different one. Bruno is giving assists and scoring goals, this has never been the issue. The issue for me is for him to control the team and the tempo when he gets the ball.
"You couldn't tell me where he's playing because he's everywhere. So sometimes maybe as a captain, you want to do extra, you want to do too much. And at the end, you're not even at your right position. But United wouldn't be where they are in the table if Bruno wasn't playing."
After scoring twice and assisting once in United’s 4-1 triumph over Wolves this week, Fernandes sits at the top of the Premier League assist charts in a statistic that sums up his season so far.
Fernandes also became just the second player to win two Player of the Week awards in 25/26, alongside Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo. The midfielder will lead his side once more as they face Bournemouth this weekend.
