The Frenchman missed Chelsea's last three games after suffering a concussion in the team's Carabao Cup third-round win over Lincoln City in September, as the club’s defensive rotation took a major hit.
As per concussion return protocols, the Frenchman had to be sidelined for 12 days. Now that time has been completed, he is back in training as pictured by the club who were happy to see him return during the international break.
Maresca had to opt to use Jorrel Hato and even Reece James as central defenders after injuries to Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah and Levi Colwill as the club suffer at the back.
His smooth return means that the 24-year-old should be available for the Blues’ next Premier League game against Nottingham Forest. The game will see Chelsea face manager Ange Postecoglou, who is yet to win a game with the side after seven games in charge.
With Chelsea’s defensive crisis improving, the Forest game looks like an easy win on paper. However, with the majority of the international break still to play, other injuries may crop up for Maresca.
