Former Manchester United striker Fraizer Campbell has praised Wayne Rooney's son Kai who he has tipped for a bright future.

Earlier this month, Wayne and Coleen Rooney celebrated a landmark birthday as Kai turned 16 years old. The young striker hopes to emulate his father's incredible career as he stars for United’s youth sides and slowly climbs the ranks.

Can Kai reach the first team?

Rooney impressed for United at the Super Cup NI in Northern Ireland in the summer and has already featured for the U19’s when he just 15 year old.

Speaking to GOAL in association with GeckoPlay, Campbell has heaped praise on the teenager who could one day feature for the first team.

“That would be fantastic. He’s played up for the 18s and the 23s this season, I think.

“He’s doing really, really well. If he’s anything like his dad, it would be fantastic for the club because Rooney was unbelievable in his playing days - still now, he played in the legends game and he’s still got the technique, that drive and hunger.

“It would be great for Wayne, Coleen and the family to see another Rooney pulling on the Man United shirt. It would be great for the fans as well.”

Rooney hopes Kai can handle the pressure

When asked about his son's football, in an interview with BBC Sport, Rooney said:

"I just let him play. I think they started the competition well, they won 3-0, he scored the penalty and got an assist. So I think he started OK. He just plays and that's all he's done during his time playing.

"I think it's very unfair for anyone to expect him to go and do all kinds. He's just playing, he's a 15-year-old boy playing his football, enjoying it. Of course he gets different attention to a lot of his team-mates but I think he handles that really well."

Rooney made his senior debut with Everton at 16 years old and became one of the most widely known striker’s in the world. Only time will tell if Kai can replicate his career and be handed a chance by manager Ruben Amorim.
