Presidential candidate Noronha Lopes has insisted he has former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva as part of his ticket.
Rui Costa remarked: "That's not the case; the members don't have to listen to these meaningless promises. Over the years, I've tried to bring players home from our youth academy.
"João Félix was very close to returning to Benfica, but we lost him to Saudi Arabia because we couldn't compete, and I respect João's decision. Nélson Semedo, the same. If Benfica has the opportunity to bring Bernardo Silva home, I don't think there's any Benfica president who wouldn't want him.
"Now, what happens if I promise player A, B, C, or D? Players with contracts and whose future is uncertain? Of course not. There's one thing I won't make to Benfica fans: promises I can't keep."
