Victory in their World Cup playoff against Poland came in the 88th minute as Gyokeres struck to earn the 3-2 win.
Afterwards, the centre-forward beamed: "There are a lot of emotions, it's hard to put into words exactly how you felt there and then, but it's clear that it was fantastic feelings and it's something you will carry with you your whole life."
The Arsenal striker declared the winner the most important goal of his career.
"Absolutely," said Gyokeres.
"I don't remember exactly (how it happened), I remember that Gurra ( Gustav Lundgren) had it on the right wing, he went past the defender really nicely and then he played it in to Danne ( Daniel Svensson) I think, and then Lucas ( Bergvall) got the ball, then Bess ( Besfort Zeneli) got the ball, then it went into the post and I was there in the thick of it and got to the ball first and then it was just a matter of putting it in!"
