Arsenal wonderkid Max Dowman has written his name into Premier League history after becoming the youngest player ever to start a top-flight match.

The 16-year-old was selected in Mikel Arteta’s starting XI on the final day against Crystal Palace, setting a new record at 16 years and 144 days, surpassing a mark that had stood for nearly two decades.

The previous record was held by former Everton midfielder Jose Baxter, who started at 16 years and 198 days in 2008.

Dowman has enjoyed a historic breakthrough campaign, having already become the youngest Premier League debutant, youngest Champions League player, and youngest Premier League goalscorer earlier in the season.

With multiple appearances and a league title now secured, the Arsenal academy graduate has capped a dream first senior year.
