The Premier League leaders are four points clear despite their 2-2 draw with newly promoted Sunderland at the weekend. Arsenal have been nothing short of incredible so far this season and now as the football schedule becomes more convoluted, the club have submitted a request.
As reported by the BBC, Arsenal have called for their Premier League game away at Everton in the run-up to Christmas to be carried out a day earlier as they look to avoid playing two matches in three days.
The Premier League leaders are scheduled to play their EFL Cup quarter-final against Crystal Palace on 23 December, two days after facing Everton in the league.
Ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League game with Slavia Prague last week, Arteta said:
"Hopefully they will move our Premier League match, because to play two days later doesn't make any sense. So now we decide the date (for the Carabao Cup match) I am sure they will change the Premier League (match) as well."
Arsenal have been fantastic this season but a packed schedule is enough to wear down any top side. The calendar is a strain for any side such as Arsenal who are still in all competitions, and playing two games in three games would mean full rotation for Arteta that puts them at a huge competitive disadvantage.
The trip to Everton currently marks the start of four games in 10 days for Arsenal, and many fans are growing frustrated by how the club are being forced to put a huge strain on their squad.
