Brentford defender Kristoffer Ajer has backed Yoane Wissa's behaviour before his move to Newcastle United this summer.

Wissa, who underwent a Newcastle medical on deadline day, sealed his £55M move to The Magpies with 30 seconds to spare, according to reports. His move did not come without controversy, however, as he forced his way out of the club.

The 28-year-old has not played for Brentford this season since demanding that the club allow him to move to Newcastle during preseason. His behaviour reflected Newcastle striker Alexander Isak’s attempt to make a move to Liverpool, which also worked out in the end.

Many are worried that this type of behaviour may become more popular in football as players make demands despite being tied down to contracts. Ajer spoke to TV2 about Wissa’s situation and defended his controversial behaviour.

“Unfortunately, that’s how football has become. There is little focus on it when clubs try to push players out of their clubs, when they have longer contacts and you try to get rid of them.

“If you are going to focus on players who are striking, you also have to address a huge problem where clubs don’t treat their players well enough when they are not good enough.”

Ajer clearly doesn’t have an issue with Wissa forcing through his move which provides a brief view into the mind of modern players and how contracts mean less and less as the game evolves. Moves like Wissa’s and Isak’s may become more popular, especially as they got their desired moves this summer.
