Sport finance expert Rob Wilson says Liverpool's Mohamed Salah should aim towards the Saudi Pro League.

Salah, 33, will leave Liverpool as a free agent reaching an agreement to part ways at the end of the season in what came as shock news to fans who will now wave goodbye to the club legend.

The Egyptian king has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Saudi Premier League in recent seasons and now has his between the Middle East and the US as MLS giants Inter Miami make their interest known.

Speaking to BettingLounge, finance expert Rob Wilson says Salah should veer away from a move to the MLS.

“We're now comparing him to somebody like Lionel Messi rather than what we've seen with Ronaldo, and MLS, in contrast to the Saudi Pro League, offers much more global visibility.

“Messi is central, or is rather the centrepiece of that ecosystem, and they've built an entire structure around him, and I think replicating that level of commercial development for another player, even someone of Salah's stature, would be extremely difficult, notwithstanding some of the geopolitics that are going on right now.

“I think more importantly, Salah's cultural alignment is far stronger in the Middle East than it is in North America. Granted, in MLS he would still be a global star but in Saudi Arabia, he probably becomes something closer to a cultural icon.

“While MLS would provide stability, visibility, and maybe even a bit of legacy building in a traditional sense, Saudi Arabia offers Salah greater scale, alignment and ultimately it's a massive opportunity to redefine what a football brand can really be.”

Salah would join the likes of Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia as he seeks to end his career on a high in a league that has rapidly grown in the last several years.
