After impressing for the Ligue 1 side this season with six goals in six starts, Meite has attracted interest from across Europe but primarily from Al-Hilal and United who have been in a head-to-head battle to snap him up.
The 18-year-old is renowned as one of the most exciting young forwards in French football and according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, United are about to miss out.
“Kader Meïté to Al Hilal, here we go! Agreement in place with Rennes and also player side right now.
“Fee around €30m, 18-year-old talent picks Al Hilal and Simone Inzaghi’s project seen as ideal step despite approaches from Premier League clubs.
“Meïté set for medical next.”
Meite has been on United’s radar since November when he featured alongside Jeremy Jacquet and Leny Yoro for France’s Under-21s, but reports suggest that the Red Devils would only chase the teenager if one of their forwards left this winter.
One of these forwards is Joshua Zirkzee who is linked with a move back to Italy this week in a deal that does not have a lot of backing from experts like Romano, suggesting he will stay until the summer.
Al-Hilal are set to win the race for the 6ft-3in striker as United watch from the sidelines. Fans will be disappointed by the news and will hope the club responds to the news with a bid of their own over the next few days.
