The France under-21 international has two-and-a-half years left on his existing contract at the Ligue 1 club and has impressed this season, netting three goals and notching two assists in 17 Ligue 1 appearances.

United, as well as Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal are linked with the forward as Rennes demand around £26M this January to see him leave the side.

Guardian journalist Ed Aarons has reported that United are ready to step up their interest this week as they race to be the first to land his signature.

“Understand that Manchester United are considering stepping up their interest in Kader Meité of Rennes and have held talks with the player’s entourage. The 18-year-old striker is expected to cost around €30m but also has interest from Al Hilal.”

With just days remaining of the winter transfer window, it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils do launch a bid which matches Rennnes’ demands as they aim to snap up the young striker.

The deal could look like a bargain if the 18-year-old manages to adapt to the Premier League, but United must move quick before the youngster steers towards the Saudi League.
