After the game, his coach, Portuguese Fonseca, admitted that his initial decision to start him had been intended to hurt the on-loan Real Madrid striker's pride.
He explained, "As a coach, we have to find strategies to get reactions from the players, and that's what I did.
"We talked to get a reaction from a player who is important to us and who needs to give more.
"I think he came on well and had the reaction we needed. It was positive."
