The veteran has revived his career at Betis over the past season, earning a recall to the Spain squad.
The former Real Madrid midfielder, 33, told France Football: "My ultimate goal? For me to retire from football, not for football to retire me. I'm enjoying one of the best moments of my career.
"I feel very loved at Betis, by my teammates and the fans."
On playing for Betis coach Manuel Pellegrini, Isco continued: "My role is disappearing, but Pellegrini gave me the opportunity at Malaga in 2011, along with trust and affection. And it's the same here. I'm lucky to have a coach who believes in the number 10 role.
"He advises me to always stay close to the ball and gives me a lot of freedom of movement. Also, this season, for the first time, I was named captain, which is a great source of pride."
Regarding his departure from Real Madrid, he recalled: "Some coaches respect you more than others, that's football. After a while, everything became more complicated for me in Madrid. When you're not in good mental shape, it shows in your game.
"I was going through a difficult period, both sportingly and personally. I didn't know how to recover. The only person responsible for my failure is me."
