Former Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo was crying in the dressing room because of Jose Mourinho.

Modric played for 13 seasons in the Spanish capital and was much loved by the fan base on and off the field as he won every trophy possible with Los Blancos

The Croatian joined Madrid from Tottenham in 2012 following a £33M move and arrived after Mourinho had dominated football with the La Liga side, winning three trophies across his first two seasons.

However, things weren’t always perfect at Madrid and Modric has now revealed in an interview with Corriere della Sera that he once saw Ronaldo break down in an emotional outburst.

"I saw him make Cristiano Ronaldo cry in the locker room, a man who gives his all on the pitch, because for once he didn't chase the opposing full-back.

"As a coach and as a person. He was the one who wanted me at Real Madrid. Without Mourinho, I would never have arrived. I'm sorry I only had him for one season.

"Mourinho is very direct with the players, but he's honest. He treated Sergio Ramos and the new arrival the same way: if he had to tell you something, he'd tell you. Max is like that too: he tells you to your face what's right and what's wrong. Honesty is fundamental."

Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague wrote about the Ronaldo incident in his Ronaldo biography and stated that the Portuguese icon said:

"After everything I've done for you, this is how you treat me? How dare you say that to me!"

Ronaldo and Mourinho’s relationship off the pitch was always fractured as the two personalities clashed. The pair shared a lot of success together, however which will be remembered more than anything.
