He later said, "I felt very proud to be able to wear the armband. It's a dream and it motivates me even more.
"I don't know if I'll be able to take it this season, because you have to respect the hierarchy, but I have the dream of wearing the Barça armband.
"I would love it; it's something every Barça player thinks about."
Barca coach Hansi Flick said of the midfielder's performance: "What I've seen from Gavi is exactly what I want to see, pushing the team forward, as captain... We saw him at the end of last season and he was at a very good level."
