The 28-year-old is one of the highest earners at the club and has just one year remaining on his current deal at the Camp Nou.
Speaking after their 7-3 friendly win over South Korean side FC Seoul, De Jong appeared to confirm that he will renew his contract at the club.
He told reporters: "I have not renewed my contract, otherwise you would have known. "But I am very happy at Barça and from what I know, Barça are happy with me so, in the end, I will renew.”
Barcelona have already signed goalkeeper Joan Garcia and brought Marcus Rashford in on loan but are currently unable to register either player.
The La Liga champions are yet to be within the boundaries of the league’s 1:1 financial rule that allows a club to spend one euro for every euro they earn in revenue.
