Filip Luis has dismissed talk of succeeding Diego Simeone as Atletico Madrid coach.

The former Atletico fullback is back in Spain after his dismissal by Flamengo earlier this year.

Asked about the Atleti job, Luis told local reporters:  "First and foremost, I'm taking things one step at a time to define my future. Since I retired in 2023, I haven't stopped for even a week.

"This is the first time I've had time to visit the teams, talk to the coaches, attend training sessions, learn more about the style of play, and meet people to join the coaching staff. So, right now,  I'm thinking about that; I haven't decided where to go yet."

On Atletico, he added:  "I was very happy there. We achieved great things, but above all, I feel proud to see Atlético as it is now. It's infinitely greater than when I left.

"This is largely thanks to the club's management, Cholo Simeone, and also the arrival of such high-quality players."
