Yesterday, Kroos reacted on social media with a direct question: “Why didn’t you play for Real Madrid?” to comments attributed to Obi Mikel that had gone viral.
The post called Kroos “mediocre” and questioned how Real Madrid players like Nacho had won multiple Champions League titles. These comments had been denied by the former Nigeria midfielder himself.
Previously, in 2024, Obi Mikel was attributed with making highly critical remarks about several Real Madrid players in the lead-up to the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund. However, he categorically denied having said that on his podcast, The Obi One , calling it false information.
“That’s an absolute lie. To say that Modric, Carvajal, Kroos, or Nacho aren’t good enough is unbelievable. I would never say something like that, and I never will,” he asserted.
Mikel went further, defending the level and careers of players like Luka Modric, Dani Carvajal, Kroos and Nacho, whom he described as "world-class players" and "Real Madrid legends." He even went so far as to name Carvajal a Ballon d'Or candidate after his season and his goal in the final.
"They've won the Champions League six times. To say they aren't good is madness," he concluded.
Following Kroos' response, Obi Mikel's 'phantom' comments resurfaced on social media after Dani Ceballos reposted the same image with those words and added the message: "Sorry, but Toni Kroos is one of a kind."
Unfortunately, Ceballos had made the post without checking on it's accuracy, so dragging Obi Mikel back into a false row.
