Real Madrid great Karim Benzema has defended underfire coach Xabi Alonso.

Xabi's position is under threat after defeats in the LaLiga and Champions League this week.

However, Al-Ittihad striker Benzema told L'Equipe: "No, the coach can't do anything. He has big names (players).

"What they (Real) lack is simply the interaction. Between (Kylian) Mbappé, Vinícius (Júnior), (Jude) Bellingham and Rodrygo. Every individual has to know what they are going to do on the pitch.

"It's difficult because everyone has their own personalities and characteristics. Everyone wants to be the best, so it's a difficult situation. Everyone has to understand that in their role, they can contribute, and that it's for the good of the team.

"The players no longer talk to each other. And it actually shows. It's like the players think 'I did my job', 'I scored my goals'. That's football today. If your teammate is better than you, then you have to accept it."
