In the meantime, Chicago Fire want to bring Lewandowski to the USA and in recent months, coach and sporting director Gregg Berhalter met with Lewandowski in Barcelona, in the presence of his agent Pini Zahavi, to gauge the player's availability.
Former footballer and analyst Janusz Michallik explained that the Chicago Fire are "100% committed" to convincing Lewandowski and his family, focusing on an ambitious project that extends beyond the pitch.
"If Barcelona offered him a contract extension, there would be no discussion. Chicago is only an option if he were to leave Barça," Michallik clarified, emphasising that the club sees Lewandowski as the potential face of a transformation that will also lead to the opening of a new stadium in 2028.
