Chelsea star Josh Acheampong is being lured away from England by Ghana, who are giving him to decide.

Earlier this year, there was uncertainty about Acheampong's realistic prospects of making his mark in the first team under Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, who was said to be looking for defensive options in the transfer market.

His performances under the Italian this season has led to him establishing himself as a pivotal asset and featured in four of the five games Chelsea have played in October, three of which were as a starter.

Now, his performances have been noticed by Ghana and, as reported by talkSPORT, they are set to lure him away from England before the World Cup next year.

“Chelsea’s England Under-21 defender Josh Acheampong is being targeted by Ghana.”

“Ghana are aware Acheampong may take time to decide, but are hoping their qualification for next summer’s World Cup may persuade him.”

Maresca recently spoke on the young defender who has a huge choice to make at just 19 years old between sticking with the Three Lions or leaving for the Black Stars.

"We are happy with the way he’s improving and the way he is working every day, but I have been since I arrived, to be honest.

"If you look back, in the last season, in pre-season in the USA, he played 45 minutes of the first game. So since day one I really liked Josh.

"So I hope he feels trusted and part of the group, more than what we are showing to him. It’s difficult to play in the Champions League and to play from the start in the Premier League, so we show him trust and confidence."
