Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has spoken to the media ahead of the EFL Cup clash with Wolves.

Chelsea have lifted the trophy five times, last triumphing in the tournament in 2015 and now face a Wolves side who are dead bottom of the Premier League and have not won the competition since 1980.

The Blues recorded a 6-0 victory in their last meeting in the League Cup back in September 2012 and will be keen on a similar result this time around.

Delap is back

Maresca firstly gave an update on Liam Delap's fitness, having been sidelined for two months with a hamstring issue.

"He took part of a complete session yesterday and he is available for tomorrow.

"90 minutes, no, he's been out two months so he needs to be gradually back to 100%."

Rotation is essential

Rotating is key for cup ties such as this and with Chelsea’s large squad, Maresca is keen on handing chances to those who often miss out on the first team.

"We need to rotate. We need to protect the players because if we go with the same 11, we are going to struggle during the season. Probably we will make some changes.

"There are players that they need to be protected for many reasons, so tomorrow we'll see. Enzo (Fernandez), Moi (Caicedo), Joao (Pedro) - they are all players, for different reasons, we need to protect them."

Maresca taking one game at a time

Next, he opened up on the opportunity to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-final as they hunt down yet another trophy under the Italian head coach.

"Absolutely. It is three games from the final, so we need to have the desire to play for that.

"We need to go game by game. Hopefully winning the game we can think about the next one.

Chelsea need to improve defensively

Finally, he was asked about how only Arsenal have scored more from set-pieces this season. Maresca was keen to add that although is is an impressive statistic, his side need to improve in other areas which are affecting team performance.

"Yeah, but we also concede, Arsenal also concede from set-pieces. Set-pieces for me is part of the game. You are going to score goals from set-pieces and you are going to concede goals from set-pieces. It's good news that after Arsenal we are the team with the most goals.

"And we're going to try to continue to score goals, but not just in set-pieces. In this moment we are in the Premier League, the team with more goals. So that means that when we score goals, set-pieces or open play, probably we need to pay a little bit more attention in the goal that we are in this moment conceding."
