The highly rated 15-year-old enjoyed a sensational campaign at academy level, scoring 23 goals in 23 league appearances for the Under-18s and cementing his status as one of the club’s brightest young prospects.
Gabriel recently celebrated winning the prestigious Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award, despite United’s disappointing defeat to Manchester City in the FA Youth Cup final.
Posting on Instagram after receiving the honour, the teenager appeared to tease an imminent promotion to first-team duties under Michael Carrick.
“It’s a great honour to be awarded the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the year. Thank you to everyone at @manutd I’d also like to thank all the fans for their continued support. See you in pre-season,” Gabriel wrote.
Manchester United are believed to be keen on accelerating the teenager’s pathway into senior football, with the youngster already training alongside the first team on several occasions.
The upcoming pre-season tour could provide the perfect opportunity for Gabriel to impress, particularly with several senior internationals expected to miss parts of the summer schedule due to World Cup commitments.
