Liverpool welcome League One side Barnsley to Anfield on Monday night for a third-round clash in the FA Cup as each side aims to progress to the next round.
The Reds will look to stretch their unbeaten run in all competitions to 11 matches on the back of a 0-0 draw with league leaders Arsenal in what was an impressive result.
The visitors are placed 17th in League One and are without a win in any of their last four games, with three defeats and one draw.
Speaking ahead of the game, Slot stated that the competition allows his side a fresh start and a new opportunity to fight for silverware as the title slips away from them.
"Given our position in the Premier League is currently not what we would want it to be, the FA Cup is a competition that gives us a fresh opportunity to build something meaningful.
"My experience of the competition is not yet the most extensive – we played only two games last season before going out – but what it means and what it represents is already very clear.
"In those two fixtures we learned a lot – about ourselves, about the qualities that lower-division opposition can bring, about how it feels to go through and go out and what the FA Cup means in general. These are lessons and experiences that we hope will help us not just tonight, but in every round we get to play.”
Barnsley stunned the Reds the last time the clubs met in the FA Cup and Liverpool will have to be careful to avoid an upset like champions Crystal Palace faced against Macclesfield this week.
