Pepijn Lijnders will be the man in the dugout for Manchester City as he replaces the suspended Pep Guardiola for their Fa Cup clash with Liverpool.

The clash between the two Premier League giants is the standout tie for the FA Cup Quarter Final which will take place the weekend of April 4th, with the date and time of the fixture yet to be confirmed.

Guardiola collected his sixth caution of the campaign during City's 3-1 triumph at Newcastle in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday evening

He will consequently serve a two-match touchline suspension meaning former Liverpool assistant manager Lijnders will take over the side for the clash as each team attempts to book a place in the Semi Final.

After vowing never to assist another manager after Jurgen Klopp, Lijnders joined City to work alongside Guardiola after Klopp pushed him towards the role.

“The moment Pep called, and the feeling he gave me about what he wanted to do with the team by bringing me in, the trust he already had before we discussed how it would look – that made the decision much easier.”

Guardiola will be absent from the touchline for this weekend's visit to West Ham but not for the clashes with Real Madrid in the Champions League as the ban does not cover European competitions.

Liverpool reached this stage after wins over Barnsley, Brighton & Hove Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers but now face their biggest test against City and Lijnders who is an expert on The Reds after serving the club for several years.
