The Premier League champions will face off against the FA Cup winners on Sunday in what will be the first competitive game of the new season for both sides who have spent drastically different ahead of the new season. The Reds have spent over £300M to bolster their side whilst Palace have spent less than £3M in what should be an interesting match up.
Now, despite the odds favouring Liverpool who have looked excellent in preseason, the Eagles have suffered another setback which will worry manager Oliver Glasner who will likely be focusing on the club’s appeal against UEFA’s Europa League verdict more than Sunday’s fixture.
Nketiah was substituted by manager Glasner in a pre-season defeat to Augsburg after he felt a pain. The injury is said to be a muscular problem and the England international will certainly miss the clash which is a huge blow to Palace’s attack.
Reports state that he could be on the sidelines for up to six weeks meaning he could miss games against Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Palace’s European fixtures against Norwegian side Fredrikstad or Midtjylland of Denmark. Meanwhile Liverpool will likely be without Joe Gomez who picked up a knock and potentially captain Virgil van Dijk who has been sick the last few days.
