Crystal Palace have been drawn against Norwegian side Fredrikstad or Midtjylland of Denmark for the Europa Conference League play-off round as their European hearing looms.

The Eagles were controversially demoted from the Europa League to the Conference League by UEFA because of a breach of multi-club ownership rules earlier this year. Palace secured Europa League football after winning the FA Cup last season but due to owner John Textor owning both Lyon and Palace they were demoted and are set to appeal the decision.

Palace have lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), with the hearing set for August 8th and are requesting readmission to the Europa League with Nottingham Forest’s admission rejected.

Should they fail in their appeal, though, they will remain in the Conference League which although being a financially worse league to be in, it does provide Palace with a better chance at even more silverware.

Fredrikstad are seventh in Eliteserien and qualified for the Europa League after winning the 2024 Norwegian Cup whilst Midtjylland qualified for the Europa League after winning the Danish Cup. It is expected that a decision on the case will be given on the 11th August as Palace fans wait to see if they will have Europa League football next season or not.

Palace could become the third English side to win the Conference League after West Ham in 2022-23 and Chelsea in 2024-25 and the side certainly have the quality to go all the way under manager Oliver Glasner who would make history once again if he does lift the famous cup.
