Southampton boss Will Still has revealed his conversation with Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike who was sent off for removing his shirt in their EFL Cup clash this week.

The Frenchman was booked within eight minutes of his introduction after throwing the ball in frustration at the award of a free kick and later scored the winner but celebrated without his shirt which landed his a red card.

Saints boss Still explained that his former forward predicted that he could score upon his introduction and even said he would give him his shirt if he scored.

"Hugo, he cracks me up, he's a funny lad.

"We just caught up before the game and he said he'd come on and score, and then give me his shirt and bugger off, which is exactly what he's done.

"So yeah, fair play to him. We sold him to PSG for £50M, so we knew he's got a bit about him.

"He scored a lot of goals for us as well and he's a constant threat, and he's incredibly annoying to play against."

Ekitike played under Still during their time together at Reims and it is clear that the two still have a close relationship that has lasted after the two moved on from the club.

The striker is now suspended for Liverpool’s trip to Selhurst Park where they face Crystal Palace as fellow summer signing Alexander Isak takes his place under a rightly frustrated Arne Slot.
