Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton missed out on an England call up this week after he picked up an injury.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been called up to the England squad after Wharton dropped out due to an adductor injury. Wharton came off in Palace's 3-0 win against Aston Villa on Sunday in the Premier League in what is a huge blow for the young midfielder.

Standard Sport have now revealed when he may return as he prepares to miss the club’s first Conference League group stage outing against Dynamo Kiev at the start of next month.

The report states that the 21-year-old underwent scans on Monday to determine the extent of the injury and revealed that he will spend most of September on the sidelines. This means once he returns at the end of this month he will not be ready for their European clash.

He will also miss games against Sunderland, Millwall in the EFL Cup, West Ham United and Liverpool in what are huge games for The Eagles who have won just 1 of their opening 3 games under manager Oliver Glasner.

Team-mate Ismaila Sarr is also set to miss Senegal’s qualifying matches against DR Congo and South Sudan in what are tough blows for Glasner as he tries to find a work around for his side.

“We had to pay the bill today with two muscle injuries,” Glasner said in his post-match press conference.

“Ismaila with a hamstring and Adam the adductor. Hopefully, it’s not too serious. We will make scans tomorrow so they can’t go to the national teams and then let’s see.
