The Saints were expelled from the play-offs after admitting that they spied on three league rivals this season, charging them for watching Oxford United and Ipswich Town training sessions, in addition to filming Middlesbrough ahead of the play-off final first leg.
Southampton have since been fined for their actions and will start the next Championship campaign on minus four points, while Boro will replace them in the final and take on Hull City, as it stands.
The South Coast club have since appealed the decision to be booted out of the final and will learn their fate later on Wednesday, with Le Tissier blasting the EFL for not having a punishment in place before the spygate scandal unfolded.
"When the efl made the rule change after Bielsa was caught spying, wouldnt it have been sensible to put alongside that what the punishment would be if the crime was committed?" The Southmpton legend wrote on X.
"That would’ve saved them a lot of trouble. I think it’s important that the punishment fits the crime btw."
Saints were then charged by the EFL on 8 May with breaking two regulations.
EFL Regulation 3.4, which requires clubs to act towards each other with the utmost good faith; and
EFL Regulation 127, which prohibits any club from observing, or attempting to observe, another club's training session within 72 hours of a scheduled match between the two clubs.
