Hodgson has been out of management since February 2024, when he left Crystal Palace.
He returns to Bristol City, a side he managed back in 1982 when he won three matches out of 21, lasting just 4 months.
This is a shock comeback for the 78-year-old who is already the oldest manager ever to have worked in the Premier League but now overtakes Neil Warnock as the oldest boss in Championship history.
Warnock was 74 when his stint at Huddersfield ended in September 2023 and Hodgson has a huge task managing the stress and pressure late into his lengthy career.
After losing 1-0 to West Brom. last week, Bristol City are currently 16th in the Championship and are without a win in five games as Hodgson steps in to try and turn the side around.
He takes over from Gerhard Struber who was brutally sacked by the side after dropping to 16th in the Championship table.
Speaking on his return to the touchline, Hodgson says he will waste no time in getting to work.
“I have had great conversations with the Board, and I am really excited by the opportunity to help until the end of the season.
“We will get straight to work and look for a positive performance on Good Friday.”
