Galatasaray take a 1-0 lead into Wednesday night’s clash after Mario Lemina’s winner in Istanbul last week and Liverpool must forge a comeback if they are to make it to the Quarter Final.
The Reds enter the clash on the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw against relegation-threatened Tottenham which saw fans boos and jeer the side once the game had concluded.
Van Dijk, who has played every minute of the Reds’ Champions League campaign this season, sent a message to his side and the fans in the programme for the game as they attempt to bounce back.
“We know exactly what is required this evening. We know we have work to do after the first leg over in Istanbul, but we are all looking forward to this game and I have full confidence in our ability to turn things around in our own stadium.
“Nights like this are what Anfield is all about. And with that noise, that passion and that support that you always give us, hopefully we can give a performance you can really get behind on the night, one with energy, commitment, intent and quality.
“Galatasaray showed again last week that they are a dangerous and well-organised team. They deserve our respect and they will get it, but I believe in this team, in this group of players, and if we reach the levels we know we are capable of, then we will give ourselves a great chance of progressing.”
The winner of Wednesday's tie will face holders Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-final and if Liverpool do not progress, reports suggest Slot may be sacked as the club head towards a trophyless season.
