Real Madrid stars have sent a message to Bayern Munich following their 2-1 loss.

Harry Kane marked his comeback from injury with fine strike from outside of the box to put Bayern 2-0 up at the Bernabeu whilst Kylian Mbappe’s goal late on was not enough to secure a comeback for the Spanish giants.

Both sides had 20 shots each, with 17 of them on target in what was a chaotic clash that will continue in the second leg in Germany where Madrid will not have their home fans behind them.

Madrid players show belief

Several Madrid players spoke after the game about the task at hand, with many optimistic over how they can turn the tie around.

Trent Alexander-Arnold: “Anything can happen, when it's Real Madrid in the Champions League”

“It'll be a HUGE task to win at the Allianz…but our plan is to win this whole thing, so we'll do our best to win there”.

Jude Bellingham on Bayern return leg: “All to play next week…”

Toni Rüdiger: “This story is far from over. We're still alive. We believe in ourselves until the end!”

Fede Valverde: “We are convinced that we can turn it around in Munich.”

Vini Jr: “We are alive. We must believe.”

Neuer was the man of the match

Real Madrid head coach Alvaro Arbeloa also opened up on the defeat and praised Manuel Neuer who is currently set to leave Bayern at the end of the season.

"I think he (Neuer) was the MVP, so we had so many chances to score some more goals. We couldn't do it, but we are still alive and we will go there with hope that we can win in Germany.

"It's not going to be easy. I played there many times and we know the atmosphere in the Allianz is not easy for the opponents. But we are Real Madrid, so we can win anywhere."
