Neuer, who turned 40 last month, was named man-of-the-match as Bayern won the first-leg of their Champions League quarterfinal 2-1.
Kompany said of his veteran goalkeeper: "It's a matter for the club and for Manu, whether he wants to continue at this age.
"I won't say anything about it. But the most important thing is what we've seen from him tonight. I had the feeling that he was in very good shape and we needed him – not only for his experience, but his quality.
"He reacted in very difficult stages of this game. With his work rate in training, I'm not surprised."
Kompany said of Neuer's performance: "Everybody can have their choice as the best of all time but Manu is one of the very few, being able to do it for a very, very long time.
"To perform like this at this age is very difficult to do. I don't know what he was like to work with at 30 but still, he's very impressive indeed. You need special performances at this level in these type of games.
"We had chances to score more. Let's hope we continue this form next week... and that our strikers are the best players."
