After being forced off after just 13 minutes in Netherlands’ 1-1 draw with Ecuador on Tuesday night, Liverpool boss will be worried as his side suffers yet another defensive setback.
The Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman, confirmed he replaced Frimpong due to injury in what is a worrying statement.
“That was a blow, we had to substitute him.”
The 25-year-old was visibly frustrated as he exited the pitch as he enters what is his third injury spell of the season since signing for The Reds last summer.
Frimpong picked up an injury against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League back in October and another muscle strain during a clash with Qarabag in January.
He now could be out for a number of weeks, seeing him miss the FA Cup clash against Manchester City as well as Paris Saint-Germain and Fulham.
With Conor Bradley out for the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on a serious knee injury picked up against Arsenal in January, Frimpong is likely to turn to one of Joe Gomez or Dominik Szoboszlai.
Liverpool supporters are likely to hear an update on Frimpong’s injury when Slot holds his press conference on Friday morning ahead of the City clash.
