Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has spoken to the media ahead of this week's Champions League clash with Napoli.

City are unbeaten in 21 group-stage/League Phase games at the Etihad but have in fact lost four of their last five matches in the Champions League in what is a mixed bag for the club who are coming off the back of a 3-0 win over Manchester United at the weekend.

Happy to be at Man City

Speaking after manager Pep Guardiola, Donnarumma was first asked on how he felt during the summer where he was pushed out of Paris Saint-Germain and approached by several clubs.

"Well, I was very clear my desire was to come here. That was my first and my only option - the only thing I wanted.

"I’m happy to be here at City, a part of this fantastic team, this fantastic family and give so much to these colours, this badge and I really hope to do it for many years to come."

Donnarumma will give it his all for City

He also spoke on the move to Manchester and how Guardiola was desperate to bring him in this summer after it became clear that Ederson would depart for Fenerbahçe.

"Before summer I knew that City were very interested in me and then the relationship strengthened.

"I knew that the coach was pushing for my arrival here, everybody wanted me here so that really spurred me on and gave me such pride to see such a demonstration of affection from them. I hope to give my all for City for this badge."

Donnarumma want to prove himself

The Italian shot stopper then spoke on the praise from Guardiola, who stated that he will deliver the quality needed in goal for years to come.

"I thank the manager and for me it’s an honour and a pride to be here and to have him as my coach. It’s history, football history so I am really excited to be here and to have him as my coach.

"I definitely still have a lot to improve, I can still give so much more, that’s my objective - to keep improving and give my all for the team."

"We have to always dream big"

Finally, he was questioned on the Champions League and whether he wants to thrive in it again, much like he did with last year's winners PSG before manager Luis Enrique decided it was time for him to leave the side.

"Definitely, (that is) one of the objectives we have. We have to always dream big but do it with humility, that’s the most important thing.

"We have to think about match after match, game after game so tomorrow will be a difficult one, the first one in the Champions League, it’s always the most complex one. We will do it with a huge team against a huge team.

"I know Napoli very well. I know the city very well. I know the coach and some of my national team team-mates are there so I know that it’s a great team we’re playing against, and I will also say these things in the changing room."
