Inter were beaten home and away by the Norwegian minnows in their playoff tie.
Their early elimination will weigh heavily on the Nerazzurri's finances. After yesterday's defeat, Inter closed their European campaign this season with just over €71m in the coffers.
Before last season's run to the final, such a figure would be impressive. But UEFA's financial restructure for the Champions League means Inter have missed on almost that same figure in further revenue.
Inter ended last season's Champions League with total revenue of approximately €136m: the difference is €65m.
To this sum must be added the loss of stadium revenue, which last year, from the round of 16 onwards, had brought in an average of €9m per match (so €27m considering the round of 16, quarterfinal, semis).
