The Gunners have finished second for three straight seasons and know they need to lay down a marker at Anfield on Sunday if they are to be strong title contenders this season. Arteta’s side have started perfectly with wins against Leeds United and Manchester United, but now must grab a result against The Reds.
Arteta first gave some bad news and revealed Bukayo Saka will miss the game and will require surgery after he suffered a hamstring injury in the win over Leeds.
Saka is out
"Bukayo is doing better, but he will be out for a few weeks. No surgery.
"It's not as bad as the previous one, very unfortunate. It was an action that required full power from him, had to change direction and he felt something."
Odegaard could return
Next, some mixed news on captain Martin Odegaard, who could still feature against Liverpool despite Arteta admitting that he has not trained this week.
"We don't know yet, he hasn't trained yet. If he does it will be tomorrow.
"No, there is an injury there but if everything can go well and he can cope with it."
Havertz won't return for weeks
More team news was also revealed as Arteta spoke on Kai Havertz after he underwent knee surgery on Thursday, he confirmed he will not feature again for a number of weeks.
"I think it will be weeks, but hopefully not months. It's very sad. This is our profession and now we lose another player for many weeks."
Eze to make Arsenal debut
Summer signing Eberechi Eze looks to step in for Saka and Odegaard this week in what will be a dream come true for the 27 year old as he makes his debut for his boyhood club.
"Very special energy, special aura around him and really willing. He's gathered a lot of information on that pitch. Yes, very impressed with him.
"We have options in that position, so let's see and I'm not going to give you any clues obviously."
Liverpool signings will change the game
Finally, Arteta commented on Liverpool's new signings and admitted that the likes of Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike will have an impact on the game.
"Yes because they have individual characteristics that change and mould a team. The outcome is therefore going to be different and they keep evolving."
