Arsenal celebrated their first league title in 22 years with an open-top bus parade on Sunday as fans gathered to support the side who were coming off the back of a brutal Champions League final defeat.
Hundreds of thousands of fans were seen on the five-mile route around north London, circling the Emirates Stadium in what was an impressive celebration.
However, despite the vast majority of fans enjoying the day, police made 16 arrests during the event whilst the London Fire Brigade said they rescued had “approximately 75 people” as celebrations continued.
Assistant Commissioner of LFB, Pat Goulbourne, spoke on the incident and fan behaviour: “Fortunately, the fire caused only a small amount of damage to the exterior of the building.
“Pyrotechnics are also believed to have triggered the fire alarms at several other locations in the area.
“As supporters head home, we would urge them to avoid using pyrotechnics, particularly at stations, and to keep them away from buildings and other flammable materials.”
Goulbourne added the celebrations had been a “fantastic sight” and said so many of the fans were “celebrating their club’s achievement safely”.
Police say the arrests were based on drunk and disorderly behaviour, drugs offences, sexual assault and assaulting emergency workers.
