Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is thinking outside the box ahead of the Gunners UEFA Champions League final against PSG.

The Gunners are aiming to clinch a historic Champions League title at the Puskas Arena in Budapest on the back of claiming their first Premier League crown since 2004 earlier this month.

Arteta's charges saw off Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals to set up a date with Luis Enrique's defending European champions in just their second-ever UCL final after losing to Barcelona in 2006.

Arsenal's domestic success was celebrated wildly by their own fans, but Arteta's tactics remain a constant source of debate, with rival supporters quick to point out their direct approach and reliance on set pieces.

The North London giants topped the Premier League's 'goals via set pieces' table at the end of the 2025/26 top-flight campaign with 29 and Arteta has been unflinching in his view that the end justifies the means.

PSG have been spotted using rugby style training drills to try and counteract Arsenal's physicality and club co-chair Josh Kroenke has revealed how Arteta's interest in US sports is shaping his thinking.

"Mikel Arteta was looking at an NFL game and he goes, ‘every play is choreographed, every play is a set-piece’.

"I took him to a hockey game, and he said ‘they form triangles everywhere, we have to get down there, I’d love to meet the coach’. He wants to apply it to what he does at Arsenal."

Ahead of the final, Arteta confirmed Jurrien Timber and Noni Madueke are fit to join the squad, but Ben White remains out injured.
