Former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has laid a wreath in memory of Diogo Jota who passed this year.

Jota was tragically killed alongside his brother Andre Silva in a car accident this summer in a moment that stunned the world of football, who are still mourning their passing.

Now, as Madrid and Liverpool meet at Anfield for their Champions League clash, Trent has laid a wreath with a message for his former teammate.

“My mate Diogo, you are so missed but still so loved. Yours and Andre’s memory will always live on. I smile every time I think about you and will always remember the great times we shared. Miss you, mate, every day. Love, Trent and family. Forever 20 YNWA.”

Trent also put down a red PlayStation controller with messages in memory of Jota’s love for FIFA, which he often streamed online and posted on social media about. The red PlayStation pad was signed: “Forever a champion 20. TAA.”

Alexander-Arnold played alongside Jota for five years before leaving in the summer to join the La Liga giants. His move was controversial, but Jota’s death holds a lot more weight than rivalries, and the England international has made that clear before the game on Tuesday night.

Earlier in the summer, the right-back posted a tribute message on social media.

"It's so difficult to find the right words when your head and heart are struggling to accept that someone you care so much about has gone," it read.

"Diogo, your family was your world. They were everything. For Rute, his children, and his parents, all of our hearts are broken. And for Andre as well.

"Brothers and best friends. When it's less painful, I want to remember Diogo with a big smile.

"So many laughs and happy moments. He was such a great teammate and a true friend. Forever number 20.

"Rest in peace, Diogo."
